Roskilde Festival Introduces Membership Fee for Volunteers

Denmark`s Roskilde Festival is introducing a membership requirement for volunteers working directly for the festival association from 2027.

Roskilde Festival has confirmed that volunteers working directly for the Roskilde Festival Association will be required to become members of the organisation from the 2027 edition.

According to the festival`s official volunteer information, the first year of membership is free, with an annual membership fee of DKK 100 (€13.40) applying from the second year.

The requirement does not necessarily apply to all of the approximately 27,000 volunteers involved in the festival each year. Roskilde Festival works with around 200 affiliated volunteer organisations, and volunteers can participate either directly through the festival association or through these organisations.

Volunteers play a central role in operating the non-profit festival, which attracts approximately 130,000 participants annually. Those working as volunteers typically contribute either 24 hours before the festival begins or 32 hours during the eight-day event.

In return, volunteers receive a full festival pass, which cost DKK 2,600 (€348) in 2026.

Roskilde Festival is organised by the non-profit Roskilde Festival Association, which distributes its profits to charitable and cultural initiatives, including projects supporting young people`s well-being.

The festival has not publicly detailed the reasons behind the membership requirement.

The 2027 edition of Roskilde Festival will take place from 26 June to 3 July, with Tame Impala, Patti Smith Quartet and Caroline Polachek among the first announced artists.
