Milan Unveils New 71,500-Capacity Stadium
AC Milan and Inter have presented plans for Generali Stadium, a new venue designed to replace San Siro and become a year-round destination for sport, culture and entertainment.
Italian football clubs AC Milan and FC Internazionale Milano have unveiled plans for Generali Stadium, a new 71,500-capacity venue that could become an important addition to Italy`s live entertainment infrastructure.
The stadium will replace San Siro, one of Europe`s best-known football and concert venues, which has hosted international artists including Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, U2 and Taylor Swift.
According to the clubs` joint announcement on 29 October, the project aims to create a destination extending beyond football, incorporating entertainment, hospitality, retail and public spaces.
"The project will create a year-round destination for sport, culture and entertainment while contributing to the attractiveness and international appeal of Milano," the clubs stated.
Designed by Foster + Partners and MANICA, the stadium will feature a continuous 360-degree seating bowl, modern hospitality facilities and improved accessibility.
The venue forms part of a wider 281,000-square-metre redevelopment project in Milan`s San Siro district.
Italian insurance group Generali has secured the naming rights in an agreement reportedly worth approximately €650 million, although the financial terms have not been officially disclosed.
For the live entertainment industry, the development could introduce another major stadium-scale concert venue in Milan. However, no details have been announced regarding concert programming, promoters or responsibility for booking non-football events.
Construction is expected to begin in 2028, with the stadium scheduled to open for the 2031/32 football season, subject to approvals.
