Legendary Swedish Promoter Julius Files for Bankruptcy

The companies behind veteran Swedish concert promoter Julius Malmström have entered bankruptcy proceedings, bringing uncertainty to a business that has been active in Scandinavian live entertainment since the early 1970s.

The companies in the Julius entertainment group, founded by Swedish promoter Julius Malmström, have entered bankruptcy proceedings following filings dated 8 October 2026.

Julius Production AB and its parent company, Julius Fritid och Nöjen AB, have both been placed into bankruptcy by Helsingborg District Court. Hans Svedberg of MAQS Advokatbyrå in Malmö has been appointed bankruptcy administrator for both companies.

In an email sent to business partners and obtained by VIP-News, the company confirmed the situation, stating:

"The Julius companies have filed for bankruptcy. Individual matters may take a little longer to resolve during this period. We are working intensively to manage the situation so that we can provide clear and accurate information as soon as possible."

The bankruptcy follows a difficult financial period for Julius Production. According to company records, the business reported net sales of SEK 95.7 million (approximately €8.7 million) for the financial year ending 30 April 2025, alongside an operating loss of SEK 7 million. The company employed eight people during the period.

Its parent company, Julius Fritid och Nöjen AB, reported turnover of SEK 7.9 million and six employees.

More Than Five Decades in Live Entertainment

Julius Malmström, originally named Stefan Malmström, is one of Sweden`s longstanding independent concert promoters. He began working as an artist agent and concert organiser in 1967 before establishing Julius Fritid och Nöjen in 1972.

The company became particularly associated with Olympen in Lund, southern Sweden, which developed into a major concert destination during the 1970s and 1980s. Under Malmström`s direction, the venue hosted international performers including Paul McCartney, Kiss, The Clash, Santana, Simple Minds and Bette Midler.

Malmström also worked as a DJ and television presenter, appearing on Swedish television`s music programme *Diskotaket* between 1977 and 1982.

In recent years, Malmström`s daughter, Emelie Löfmark, has also been part of the group`s management, playing a role in the family-owned entertainment business as it continued to develop its theatre, musical and touring activities across Scandinavia.

As the Scandinavian concert market developed and touring productions became larger, Julius gradually shifted its activities from international rock concerts towards theatre, musicals, touring stage productions and entertainment events.

The group established a substantial presence in southern Sweden, particularly Malmö, while also presenting touring productions throughout Scandinavia.

Julius Fritid och Nöjen also owns Julius Biljettservice AB and Nöjesteatern i Malmö AB, reflecting its involvement in ticketing and theatre operations in addition to concert promotion.

The group remained active during 2026, presenting Scandinavian touring productions including Seven Drunken Nights, Rhythm of the Dance, The 12 Tenors and an Eric Idle tour.

It remains unclear how the proceedings will affect upcoming productions, existing contractual commitments and the group`s other companies.

The bankruptcy administrator will oversee the proceedings, including the handling of creditors` claims and outstanding agreements.
