The legal dispute between techno artist Sara Landry and former management company The Night Department has expanded with a new US lawsuit over the use of her name and trademarks.
The case adds to an ongoing UK legal battle over the termination of their management agreement.
Landry filed the case in federal court in Manhattan on October 6 against The Night Department and managers Matthew Verovkins and Harry Glaisher, alleging trademark infringement and unauthorised use of her intellectual property.
According to the filing, Landry terminated her management agreement with The Night Department in August 2025 following disagreements over the ownership and control of her music rights and Hekate Records, the label she founded.
The lawsuit claims the company continued to present itself as representing Landry and Hekate Records after the termination, allegedly creating the impression among music industry professionals that it was still authorised to act on their behalf.
Landry is seeking damages including profits allegedly generated through the unauthorised use of her trademarks. The filing does not specify a total damages figure.
The latest action adds another element to an existing legal dispute between the parties. The Night Department previously filed proceedings against Landry in the UK, alleging that she breached her management contract by terminating the agreement.
Landry has filed counterclaims in that case, accusing the company of contractual breaches and of attempting to obtain greater control over her music and label. The Night Department has denied those allegations and maintains that the relevant ownership terms were clearly set out in contractual agreements.
In the new US filing, Landry claims her former managers sought 50% ownership of both her music and Hekate Records without appropriate compensation and contrary to her stated intention to retain ownership of both.
The lawsuit also contains allegations concerning the management of Landry`s touring activities and Hekate Records, including claims of delays, communication issues and the use of inexperienced personnel.
The Night Department had not publicly responded to the latest lawsuit at the time it was reported.
Landry said artist ownership and rights remained important to her, adding that she intends to continue advocating for artists to retain control over their work and careers.
Landry signed with The Night Department in 2023, with Verovkins acting as senior manager and Glaisher handling day-to-day management. Following the split, she moved her management representation to The Circuit Group.
Landry has become one of the most prominent international names in hard techno in recent years, with major festival appearances including Coachella and a growing touring profile in Europe and North America.
The UK proceedings over the termination of the original management agreement remain ongoing.
