The accident occurred while the artist was touring South America as part of his ongoing world tour.

Born Oliver Tree Nickell in 1993, Tree built an international following through a blend of alternative pop, electronic music and distinctive visual storytelling. He first emerged with the release of his debut EP Demons in 2013 before taking a break from music to pursue further studies. Returning in 2016, he released a series of EPs that led to his debut album Ugly Is Beautiful in 2020.

Tree achieved global commercial success with tracks including Life Goes On and Miss You. The latter, created in collaboration with German DJ and producer Robin Schulz, became an international hit and reached the top five of the Australian singles chart in 2022. His music regularly blended pop, electronic, indie and alternative influences, helping him attract a broad global audience.

Throughout his career, Tree became known for combining music with comedy, performance art and internet culture. His distinctive visual identity, including his trademark bowl haircut and unconventional promotional campaigns, helped establish him as one of the most recognisable artists to emerge from the social media era.

Following Ugly Is Beautiful, Tree released Cowboy Tears in 2022 and Alone In A Crowd in 2023. His most recent album, Love You Madly Hate You Badly, was released in April 2026.

At the time of his death, Tree was touring internationally on The World’s First World Tour, a 70-date global run that began in May. The tour included performances across North and South America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Tree leaves behind a catalogue of music that generated billions of streams worldwide and helped bridge the gap between online culture and contemporary pop music.
