Athens-based promoter High Priority Promotions has staged two of the largest international rock concerts ever held in Greece within the span of a few weeks, underlining the country`s growing capacity to host major global touring productions.
More than 90,000 fans attended Metallica`s M72 World Tour stop at Athens` Olympic Stadium (OAKA) in May, making it the largest concert ever held in Greece, according to the promoter.
The show was followed by Iron Maiden`s Run For Your Lives World Tour performance at the same venue, which attracted more than 50,000 attendees and marked the band`s largest-ever show in the country.
The two stadium events drew a combined audience of more than 140,000 people and represented a significant milestone for both High Priority Promotions and the Greek live entertainment sector.
According to the promoter, Metallica`s Athens performance attracted fans from across Greece as well as visitors from 91 countries, highlighting the increasing role of major concerts in driving music tourism and international event travel.
The Metallica production featured the band`s signature 360-degree stadium stage setup and large-scale audiovisual production, reflecting the level of infrastructure and operational capabilities now available in the Greek market. During the concert, the band also paid tribute to local audiences by incorporating excerpts of traditional Greek music into the performance.
For the live music industry, the success of both events is seen as further evidence that Greece is becoming a viable destination for major international stadium tours. The scale of attendance, international audience reach and production requirements involved in the two concerts place Athens alongside other established European touring markets capable of hosting some of the world`s largest live productions.
The back-to-back stadium shows also represent a significant achievement for High Priority Promotions, which has been active in the Greek concert market for more than four decades and has promoted performances by many of the world`s leading international artists.
