US Investor Pushes for Changes at CTS Eventim

Ananym Capital has acquired a stake in the German ticketing and live entertainment group, calling for share buybacks, greater transparency and management stability to unlock up to 100% in potential shareholder value.

US investment firm Ananym Capital has acquired an undisclosed stake in German ticketing and live entertainment group CTS Eventim, becoming the latest activist investor to target a major European entertainment company.

The New York-based firm believes CTS Eventim is significantly undervalued and is calling for changes to its financial strategy, corporate governance and use of technology.

Ananym co-founder Charlie Penner outlined the firm`s investment thesis at the 13D Monitor Active-Passive Investment Summit, arguing that CTS Eventim could increase its shareholder value by between 50% and 100% through a series of operational and financial improvements.

The size and value of Ananym`s investment have not been disclosed.

Pressure for Financial and Management Changes

Among the investor`s main proposals is a share buyback programme, which Penner believes would demonstrate confidence in CTS Eventim`s business model and support its valuation.

Ananym is also calling for greater financial transparency, improved management stability and faster adoption of artificial intelligence across the company`s operations.

The investor has highlighted the frequent changes in CTS Eventim`s financial leadership, including the recent departure of CFO William Willms, the third finance chief to leave the company since 2020.

According to Reuters, Ananym also believes CTS Eventim is trading at a substantial discount to its US competitor Live Nation Entertainment, with a reported 44% valuation gap based on enterprise value relative to core earnings.

Penner has reportedly characterised Ananym`s approach as cooperative rather than confrontational, indicating that the firm intends to engage with CTS Eventim`s management over its proposals.

Share Price Responds to Investment

The announcement prompted a positive reaction among investors, with CTS Eventim shares gaining approximately 5.5% during trading on 21 October, reaching €65.10, their highest level in seven months.

The company`s market capitalisation is currently approximately €6.1 billion, although its share price remains considerably below the levels reached during 2025, when it traded above €110.

Ananym argues that CTS Eventim`s established ticketing operations, venue relationships and position in the European live entertainment market provide opportunities for further growth.

The investor has also identified potential benefits from expanding venue contracts and introducing AI-driven technologies into the business.

A Major European Live Entertainment Group

Headquartered in Bremen, CTS Eventim is one of Europe`s largest ticketing and live entertainment companies, operating ticketing platforms, concert promotion businesses, festivals and venues across multiple international markets.

The group employs approximately 5,200 people worldwide and is led by founder and CEO Klaus-Peter Schulenberg, who remains its dominant shareholder.

Alongside its ticketing operations, CTS Eventim has an extensive live entertainment portfolio through its EVENTIM LIVE promoter network and interests in festivals and venue operations.

The investment in CTS Eventim is Ananym Capital`s second publicly reported German investment, following its involvement with Siemens Energy.

Attention now turns to CTS Eventim`s first Capital Markets Day, scheduled for 20 November 2026, when investors are expected to receive further details about the company`s strategy and financial outlook.

It remains unclear whether Ananym`s shareholding is large enough to exert significant influence over corporate decisions, particularly given Schulenberg`s controlling position.

CTS Eventim has not publicly announced any changes to its strategy in response to Ananym`s proposals.
