Former QMusic chief executive Kris Stewart has been appointed Venue Manager of Australia`s Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct in Logan, Queensland.
The appointment comes as the venue looks to expand its programming, audience reach and commercial activity.
Stewart will oversee programming and event delivery, commercial partnerships, financial performance, marketing and team development, while also focusing on increasing the precinct’s profile, attendance and revenue.
Opened in July 2022 following the redevelopment of the historic Kingston Butter Factory site, the cultural precinct includes a 220-capacity indoor venue and an outdoor event space capable of hosting more than 5,000 people. Since opening, it has presented performances by artists including Ben Lee, The Whitlams, Troy Cassar-Daley and South Summit.
Commenting on the appointment, Stewart said the venue had significant growth potential.
“I have been watching Kingston Butter Factory grow since its opening and I have been telling people about it ever since,” he said.
“This is a venue with genuine energy, genuine character, and a community around it that is ready for more.
“My focus will be on growing the programming; bringing more national and international acts to the outdoor space, developing the kinds of events that reflect Logan`s extraordinary cultural diversity, and making KBF a venue that promoters across Australia actively seek out.”
Stewart brings more than two decades of experience in the arts, live entertainment and venue sectors. His previous roles include serving as Artistic Director of the Brisbane Powerhouse, where he helped establish events such as the Wonderland Festival, MELT Queer Culture Festival, Queensland Cabaret Festival and IRL Digital Festival. He also played a role in founding the New York Musical Theatre Festival, Sydney Fringe Festival and Festival of Voices.
Most recently, Stewart served as chief executive of QMusic, the peak body representing the contemporary music industry in Queensland, Australia. QMusic supports artists, venues, festivals and music businesses across the state and is best known for producing the annual Queensland Music Awards. Stewart led the organisation for nearly five years after succeeding Angela Samut in 2021.
Stewart will officially begin his role as Venue Manager of the Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct in July.
