Swedish metal band Sacramentum have announced the death of founding member Nisse Karlén.
In a statement shared by his bandmates on social media, the group confirmed that Karlén died after struggles with mental health.
“It is with deep sorrow we share the heartbreaking news that our dear friend, band member, and one of the founders of Sacramentum, Nisse Karlén, has passed away,” the band wrote.
They added that Karlén “chose to leave this world due to struggles with mental health” and requested privacy for his family, friends, and fellow musicians as they grieve.
The band paid tribute to their late bandmate, writing: “Thank you for everything, Nisse. You will always be with us.”
Sacramentum, formed in 1990, are regarded as one of Sweden’s influential black metal acts. Karlén, who helped establish the group, was a central figure in shaping their sound and presence in the extreme metal scene.
