Dutch concert promoter Bon Bon Entertainment has been declared bankrupt, leaving little chance that visitors to the canceled Burna Boy concert at the Johan Cruijff ArenA in June 2024 will receive a refund.
According to the promoter, the past two years have been “difficult,” with multiple cancellations, financial setbacks, and a challenging market.
“Despite all efforts to keep going, it’s simply no longer sustainable,” a statement on instagram said.
The Burna Boy concert, scheduled for 9 June 2024, was canceled shortly before its start due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
A year earlier, in 2023, a performance at the GelreDome was also canceled, with attendees only notified late in the evening. In both cases, fans voiced dissatisfaction with the refunds, as they only received a partial amount back, with the remaining balance outstanding.
The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has stated that in the event of bankruptcy, consumers are last in line for payments, making reimbursement unlikely.
The number of affected ticket holders and the overall financial losses have not been disclosed, but the amount could be in the millions of euros.
Founded in 2006 and based in Capelle aan den IJssel, Bon Bon Entertainment has promoted concerts and events in genres such as hip-hop, rap, reggae, and R&B.
The promoter has previously worked with artists including Busy Signal, Wizkid, and Jacquees at venues such as AFAS Live, TivoliVredenburg, and Rotterdam Ahoy.
The company said the negative media attention following the Burna Boy cancellation led to the breakdown of talks with artists and the withdrawal of investors, making a resolution or refunds no longer feasible.
