For the first time since its launch in 2010, Scotland`s renowned Wide Days music convention will not take place in 2025.
Organizers have announced the difficult decision to take a year out, citing challenges in maintaining the event’s high standards due to funding and planning constraints.
Despite securing a multi-year funding award from Creative Scotland, a three-month delay in notification and the subsequent need to adapt their year-round programme and budget have left the team without sufficient time and resources to organize the convention. Existing delegate pass holders will receive automatic refunds.
Although Wide Days 2025 will not go ahead, organizers remain committed to supporting artists and the music sector. Their 12-month talent development programme, in partnership with PRS Foundation, will continue as planned. Selected participants will benefit from a comprehensive support package, including mentorship from industry professionals.
In addition, Wide Days will present New From Scotland, a showcase of emerging talent on May 1 and 2 at La Belle Angele and Sneaky Pete’s. Open to the public, the event will welcome international industry professionals and is supported by Creative Scotland. Full details are expected in early March.
Wide Days has a history of resilience, having successfully adapted to challenges in the past. In 2020, it was among the first to host an online music convention and professionally film showcases during lockdown. Last year, despite financial difficulties, the team delivered its most successful edition while maintaining fair work practices for freelancers and artists. However, this required significant sacrifices, including the directors working unpaid for a period and using company reserves.
The Wide Days team have assured that additional activities will be announced in the coming months, with further news on Wide Days 2026 expected later this year.
