Canadian Music Week (CMW) is undergoing a major transformation following its recent acquisition by Canadian firm Loft Entertainment and U.S.-based Oak View Group.

Announced at a press conference in Toronto, the event will relaunch as the Departure Festival + Conference from May 6-11 at Hotel X in Toronto, expanding on CMW’s four-decade legacy with new programming in music, art, comedy, and technology.

Loft Entertainment co-founder Randy Lennox, OVG Canada president Tom Pistore, Loft executive producer Kevin Barton, and COO Jackie Dean shared their vision, with Canadian comedian Russell Peters in attendance.

Barton described Departure as a "launchpad" for inclusive discussions, showcasing Toronto’s rich cultural scene and welcoming global artists.

Departure’s lineup will feature live performances, engaging panels, and the return of the Radiodays North America Conference.

The event will also include a songwriter showcase, comedy performances, and a refined culinary experience with boutique food trucks and outdoor activations. Future plans include expansion into film and fashion.

The rebranding marks the end of an era for CMW founder Neill Dixon, who retires after leading the conference since its inception in 1982.
