Live Nation, the parent company of Ticketmaster, has now confirmed an `unauthorized activity` in it
Live Nation, the parent company of Ticketmaster, has now confirmed an "unauthorized activity" in its database, following claims by a hacker group that they have stolen personal details of more than 500 million customers.
In a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on May 31, Live Nation announced the launch of an investigation to determine the extent and nature of the breach.
Reports surfaced last week that a hacker group known as `ShinyHunters` accessed the personal information of 560 million Ticketmaster users, amounting to 1.3 terabytes of data. ShinyHunters allegedly offered the customer data for $500,000 on the hacking forum, Breach Forums.
The SEC filing detailed that on May 20, 2024, Live Nation Entertainment detected unauthorized activity within a third-party cloud database housing Ticketmaster data. Industry-leading forensic investigators were engaged to probe the incident.
“On May 27, 2024, a criminal threat actor offered what it alleged to be Company user data for sale via the dark web. We are working to mitigate risk to our users and the Company, and have notified and are cooperating with law enforcement. As appropriate, we are also notifying regulatory authorities and users with respect to unauthorised access to personal information.” Live Nation stated in the filing.
Live Nation assured stakeholders that, as of the filing date, the incident has not had, and is not expected to have, a significant impact on its business operations or financial standing. The company continues to assess the risks and advance its remediation efforts.
