SXSW Sydney Will Not Proceed in 2026

SXSW Sydney will not proceed in 2026, with organisers confirming that the event has concluded following its 2025 edition.

After three years of music industry conferences and live performances in central Sydney, the organisers cited a “changing global environment” affecting major events worldwide, including music festivals and cultural programmes, as the key factor behind the decision.

The team said it had worked closely with the NSW Government and the event’s global owner, Penske Media Corporation, to explore potential options for the future. However, prevailing market conditions ultimately led to the decision not to continue the Sydney edition.

In a joint statement, co-managing directors Simon Cahill and Jono Whyman described SXSW Sydney as an “unforgettable three-year journey” and thanked the partners, contributors and participants involved.

“SXSW Sydney would not have been possible without our partners, Destination NSW and SXSW, as well as our speakers, sponsors, volunteers and attendees,” they said. “We are grateful to everyone who helped make the event possible over the past three years.”
