Italy introduces annual fund to support live music
Italy has approved a new annual €1.5 million fund aimed at supporting the development and competitiveness of its national live music and contemporary performance sector, as part of the 2026 budget law adopted at the end of 2025.
The measure is designed to finance the production and organization of contemporary music performances and to strengthen the broader live entertainment ecosystem. Industry bodies say the fund marks a formal acknowledgment of the sector’s role within Italy’s cultural and creative economy.
National trade associations have welcomed the initiative. Bruno Sconocchia, president of Assoconcerti, described the measure as a “historic milestone” for the industry, noting that it represents the first time the state has explicitly recognized the cultural, social, and economic value of the live music sector.
Assomusica president Carlo Parodi (pictured) also praised the move, calling it a long-awaited recognition of a sector that contributes to employment, tourism, and regional economic development across the country.
Alongside the dedicated live entertainment funding, the 2026 budget law introduces a revised cultural incentive scheme for young people.
The new Bonus Valore Cultura (Culture Bonus) will carry an annual budget of €180 million and, from 2027, will provide vouchers that can be used for live events as well as museums, exhibitions, and theatre performances.
The new program replaces the previous Youth Culture Card and Merit Card schemes, consolidating cultural support for young audiences under a single framework that includes live entertainment among its eligible activities.
