Düsseldorf’s iconic venue Ratinger Hof reopens

After nearly a year of closure, the doors of the legendary Ratinger Hof reopened on Monday evening, marking a new chapter in the club’s storied history. A sold-out concert by local band The Rogers kicked off the venue’s return, followed by a May Day dance event hosted by Radio206. Originally established in the 1970s as an artists’ bar, Ratinger Hof evolved into a landmark of Düsseldorf’s punk scene, notably serving as the rehearsal space for Campino’s first band, ZK. Over the decades, it became a key venue for techno, rock, and indie music before pandemic-related challenges and financial struggles led to its shutdown in mid-2024. Attempts to sustain the space through cooperative and socio-cultural initiatives were unsuccessful, and the previous operator exited after a year. However, political and cultural stakeholders rallied to preserve the club’s musical legacy. Municipal event agency D.LIVE took over the lease and partnered with concert team nrw to relaunch the venue as a professionally managed live music club. Following months of renovation and technical upgrades, the Ratinger Hof now boasts a new logo, revamped website, and a full calendar of events. Thirteen performances are scheduled for May alone, including a set by rising Düsseldorf artist Thunder Bae on May 30. Programming is planned well into the winter season and 2026. “This reopening is a milestone for Düsseldorf as a music city,” said D.LIVE CEO Michael Brill. “Supporting spaces like the Ratinger Hof is essential for developing talent and fostering cultural diversity.” Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller also welcomed the relaunch, stating: “The return of the Ratinger Hof brings back an important part of Düsseldorf’s cultural identity.
