PRS Sues Live Nation Over VIP Ticketing Dispute

PRS for Music, the UK’s collective licensing organisation representing songwriters and music publishers, has filed a lawsuit against Live Nation in the UK High Court. The suit alleges that Live Nation has shown “disregard” for live music licensing requirements, particularly in how it reports VIP ticket revenues. PRS accuses Live Nation and its subsidiaries, including Festival Republic, DF Concerts, and festivals like the Isle of Wight and Parklife, of failing to fully account for the revenue from VIP tickets and packages. The lawsuit argues that Live Nation has underreported gross receipts, which form the basis for calculating royalties under the Popular Music Concert Licence. PRS says the action aims to secure rightful remuneration for creators and address Live Nation’s alleged failure to include booking fees, service charges, and administration fees in its reporting, as required by UK copyright law.
