Australia’s iconic Bluesfest will come to an end after its 2025 edition, dealing another blow to the country’s struggling music festival scene. The announcement of Bluesfest’s closure follows the recent cancellations of Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, and Groovin the Moo. Since its debut in 1990, Bluesfest has drawn around 100,000 music enthusiasts each year to its 300-acre Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm venue, located about 11km north of Byron Bay. Over the past 35 years, the festival has hosted legendary acts like Bob Dylan, Kendrick Lamar, and Paul Simon. Rising travel costs, increasing overheads, and tightening consumer spending have been cited as contributing factors to the challenges facing the industry. “To my dear Bluesfest family, and after more than 50 years in the music business, Bluesfest has been a labour of love, a celebration of music, community, and the resilient spirit of our fans. But after the 2025 festival, as much as it pains me to say this, it’s time to close this chapter, " Bluesfest director Peter Noble said in a statement.
