The shelves in Virgin and HMV have recently been filled with re-issues of his brilliant band recordings from the 1960's, but Westbrook has moved on , he is a composer for now and the future. Westbrook is often likened to Ellington in his approach to composition and arranging, writing for the player and not just the instrument His work is fresh, new and challenging.

The twenty-three piece Orchestra allows Westbrook to work with a full pallet of sound colours. The texts for his songs often embrace many of the varied political and creative cultures of Europe and beyond.

What is this music? Jazz, rock, or contemporary classical? Marketing requires labels, but Westbrook transcends these categories. He is an enigma for some but crystal clear to others.
