Kanker Kommando
Kanker Kommando is a Belgian band (if you can call it a band)founded in 1980. At that time it was a ''funny'' punkband (genre Swell Maps). After a few performances, especially after one successfull performance in Loppem-Belgium with an attendence of more than 300 people, they decided to re-invent themselfes as a noise/industrial band. More or less spontaneously letting the structure of the band evolve in what they call an ''albino amoeba'' (an one-cell creature that creates for itself pseudo feet in that direction it wants to go in). By 1982 the band was the one-man band of AJ993447 (ID-card number at that time)who invited guest-musicians whenever felt the need for that.
The band still exists but didn''t perform since 1990.
The instruments are prepared guitars, a Korg MS-10 synthesiser, a short wave reciever (tuner), materials from the scrape-yard... They very often ''re-import'' the sound of the instruments into the synth by microphone.
The music is what they call: low-tech. Meaning that no technical problem, nor any other shortcomming can ever be an excuse for making no/ or bad music. Problems and shortcommings whatsoever must be integrated as constituting parts of the music itself. That being not only a musical, but also a political principle ... Note that AJ993447 is both a philosopher and a revolutionary marxist...
Rememberal performances are the Metabletica-festival (sept 82, organisator: V2), a performance of 6 hours in a schoolbuilding in Torhout-Belgium, where no audience showed up and where the building was used as an instrument (1981 and later released as the H-block-tapes), the ''Belgian evening'' of Holland Vrijstraat (Amsterdam)during the weekend that police took over that squattered builing(date?)
They released 6 tapes (5 tapes and 1 double-tape)with names as The H-Block, Loud Stereo and .eadphones, Naakt en Kwetsbaar, Liefdesliederen voor de dief, ... and a compilation called ''Low Tech Definition''.
As a matter of principle those relaeses are of pover quality; ... the shortcommings should be part of the music itself... And as a matter of principle the music is free for those that have no commercial interest in it. On demand and for the price of posting the material only, you can get copies of their releases for free (nowadays on CD).
