Napua Davoy - Singer/Pianist (solo - quartet)
Jazz
Vocalist, pianist
The sultry, sensual sound of Napua Davoy s new album "A Little Time For Me" establishes the New York based vocalist/pianist/composer as a great new voice in the jazz firmament. Davoys exotic stylings which one critic gushingly described as "succulent Nina Simone-esque tones," derives much from her truly diverse cultural roots. Raised in the steamy swamps of Southeast Texas by a Hawaiian mother and Anglo/Cherokee father (which she aptly describes as "Paradise meets the Grapes of Wrath!"), and educated both by formal lessons and the great R&B sounds that so dominated the airwaves of Davoy s childhood, has resulted in the seductive songs heard on her new release.
"A Little Time For Me" features many Napua originals like the gorgeous love ballad "Viajeiro", the Burt Bachrach/Dionne Warwick inflected "The Apple Of My Eye" and a celebration of our country s sun-splashed playground, "Miami." It also showcases the compositions of Russia s most celebrated jazz pianist Andrei Kondakov whose lyrics are brought to life through Davoy s deft interpretations. Rounding out the originals are well-known tunes like Hoagy Carmichael s "Old Rockin Chair", the Beatle s "Getting Better", and Earth,Wind&Fire s "After The Love Is Gone" in vocal/guitar duets with Gene Bertoncini who adds tasteful acoustic touches throughout the album.
From New York s jazz clubs to the concert halls of Russia, Napua Davoy s lush, intimate voice has seduced one and all.
