After a long preparatory process the group Cafe Aman İstanbul was formed in 2009 in İstanbul and İzmir. To keep the tradition alive Cafe Aman İstanbul gave a new life to rembetika music. In the album Fasl-ı Rembetiko the Ottoman Fasıl instruments bring you back to the 19th Century, the end of the Ottoman empire.

Next to Turkish and Greek sounds, Cafe Aman İstanbul also work on sounds such as rembetika, Ottoman Fasıl music, Turkish classical music as well as the Byzantine music (religious and profane)

The groups repertoire comprises music from Byzantine times, all through the Ottoman empire and from there onward to this day. Material is found on old LP's, in special archives and sheet music.
