The award-winning artist from Ogbomoso, Oyo State grew up in the Lagos district of Bariga and is the progenitor of popular Yoruba culture in the entertainment industry.
He began writing songs at the age of 14, deriving his inspiration from his environment, and music from the likes of Ebenezer Obey, King Sunny Ade, Tataio Alamu, the late Alhaji Ayinia Omowura and the late Alhaji Haruna Ishola.
He recorded his first demo in 1996 but got his big break in 2007 with the release of one of the biggest albums in Nigerian history, Gongo Aso.
Known for his extensive and dexterous use of the Yoruba language in his music, 9ice likens himself to Youssou N’Dour who has won Grammy Awards with music recorded in his mother tongue and Yvonne Chaka-Chaka, whose widespread music also embraced her native tongue.
9ice is currently promoting his latest album I.D. Cabasa.
