Chris Bannister
Country/Blues
Singer/songwriter Chris Bannister began his recording career in 1992 with the critically acclaimed album ‘Only Human’ and achieved Record Of The Week on Radio 2 with his song ‘We Were Children’. He has released four albums of original songs and legendary DJ ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris referred to him as one of his favourite artists of the year.
In 2010 Chris began touring with his solo show ‘The Music of John Denver’ celebrating the life and work of the legendary singer/songwriter in his own unique way. He has recorded several radio specials for the BBC and toured extensively in the North of England for the last three years. Chris was honoured to be asked to perform in Aspen, Colorado in October 2012 for the annual celebrations of John Denver’s life and work.
He performed with Steve Weisberg, John Denver’s lead guitar player on all his platinum albums during the 70’s. Chris and Steve performed several concerts together, their final performance in Aspen being an unforgetable show at Windstar – Denver’s eco awareness centre in the heart of the rocky mountains. John Denver’s longtime friend Peter Plantec said after Chris and Steve’s concert at Aspen Community Church, ‘I wasn’t watching John tonight but all of the magic was there.’
Chris Bannister – The History
Chris Bannister released his debut album ‘Only Human’ in 1992. Produced in a small Liverpool studio and on an independent label, the album combined country, folk and rock elements and immediately caught the attention of Bob Harris who was still with Radio One at the time. A single ‘We Were Children’ was released in 1993 and made the coveted playlist at BBC Radio 2.
Chris released a second album ‘Colours’ a few years later and continued to play live, sometimes performing as many as 200 shows a year.
In 2001 Chris recorded an album at Revolution Studios in Cheshire. ‘October Already’ was produced by Andy McPherson and Justin Richards and contained what Chris considered to be his best songs to date. The album featured Roy Martin on drums and Sad Cafe’s Ian Wilson on backing vocals and guitar.
