LARS VOGT has rapidly established himself as one of the leading pianists of his generation. Born in the German town of Düren in 1970, he first came to public attention when he won second prize at the 1990 Leeds International Piano Competition, and has since gone on to give major concerto and recital performances throughout Europe, Asia, and North America.
Now a regular visitor to the leading UK orchestras, Mr. Vogt has performed widely in his native Germany, including recital engagements in Munich, Frankfurt, Bonn, Cologne, and the festivals of Schleswig-Holstein, Bad Kissingen, and the Klavierfest Ruhr. Other recent appearances included a second recital at Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan and debuts with the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale in Florence and the Mozarteum Orchestra in Salzburg; this year he undertakes a 16 concert tour of Australia, organized by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and in 1998 he makes his Japan debut with the NHK Symphony.
Lars Vogt has won competitions in Germany, Italy, and Czechoslovakia, both for solo playing and chamber music. He plays regularly with the Trio Nova Vita and enjoys performing chamber music at a variety of festivals with colleagues such as Frank Peter Zimmermann, Christian Tetzlaff, Sabine Meyer, Heinrich Schiff, Truls Mørk, and Boris Pergamenschikow.
An exclusive EMI recording artist, Mr. Vogt has made several discs for the label, including the Schumann and Grieg Concertos and Beethoven’s First and Second Piano Concertos with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Sir Simon Rattle. He continues his studies with Professor Kämmerling in Hannover; in 1991 he married the Russian composer, Tatiana Komarova.
