Under the leadership of the conducter and arranger Christian
Kolonovits the V.S.O.P. starts its big world tour in 1995/96
The collaboration of the famous Vienna Symphonic Orchestra with the undisputed king of arrangers of Austrian pop music, Christian Kolonovits achieved superlativ success.
The productions I-IV sold several million.
Christian Kolonovits explains the success of the "V.S.O.P.":
"We tried to achieve a real symbioses between serious and light entertainment music!"
The V.S.O. established in 1990 by the conductor Ferdinand Lˆwe as "The Orchestra of the Viennese Concert Society", represents the main concert orchestra, the other famous Viennese Orchestra, the "Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra" works mainly for the Viennese opera house.
The V.S.O. under different conductors such as Wilhelm Furtw‰ngler, Richard Strauþ, Karl Bˆhm or Herbert von Karajan have performed over 900 works for the first time worldwide.
Included in the 900 one finds works from Anton Bruckner "Neunte" (1903), Alban Schˆnberg "Gurrelieder" (1915), Maurice Ravel "Konzert f¸r die linke Hand" (1932) and Gottfried von Einem "Jesu Hochzeit" (1980).
With the many performances and endless touring throughout Europe and overseas the V.S.O.P. expects the recognotion of an orchestra with a world wide reputation.
During the summer of 1989 an artist stood behind the conductor¥s rostrum of the V.S.O.P. having achieved great success in a totally different area outside the classical music: Christian Kolonovits, the undisputed number one of the Austrian rock and pop arrangers.
Under his leadership the V.S.O. was reinforced with a choir and a rockband and recorded the fourth album of the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra said "V.S.O.". The orchestra in traditional style performed ten pop songs. However. Christian Kolonovits rearranged the songs over a period of months creating musical moments that where neither serious nor light hearted. The result showed a perfect symbioses of both areas.
Hartmut Pfannm¸ller one of the bet european aound engineers operated the mixing console in order to express this result through the sound. He simply recorded the classical musicians in a pop fashion.
The V.S.O. and Christian Kolonovits had the idea to try to cross the borders together between serious and light entertainment music. In the early years of the V.S.O. they were playing not only classical but their audience were able to enjoy operetta-pot=pourries and light music.
Christian Kolonovits, as a musician, composer and producer played a major role in the success of artists e.g. Wolfgang Ambros, Rainhard Fendrich, Boney M., Supermax and many more and finally qualified at the academy of music in Vienna. It is not surprising that both classical and pop musicians are equally content working together.
Everybody who is involved herein is of the opinion that the V.S.O.P. is a step forwards!
