The band was formed in Birmingham, England 1998 by Craig Hamilton (vocals, guitar) and Jez Ince (bass). They were joined soon after by Jim Summerfield (guitar, vocals) and in early 2000 by Anna Russell (vocals, piano). Drummer Phil Robinson joined the band in early 2001 to complete the jigsaw.....since then the band have gone from strength to strength. They began life under the name 'Buick 6' and released their debut 7" in 2000 on Birmingham-based singles label Winnebago Records. The release raised the band's profile in Birmingham and established them on the local scene, their acoustic and electric shows drawing crowds from a wide section of the city's gig-going community. When the BBC Radio 1 In The City week visited their hometown in October 2001 they gave a copy of their 7" to John Peel who subsequently played it. This in turn set the wheels in motion for them to record their first session for the programme in December of that year. The session was broadcast in January 2002 to great reviews, but also attracted the attention of 'another' Buick 6 and the band were forced into a name change - becoming The Toques. The music remained in a similar vein however and if anything improved consistently throughout 2002 leading to a deal with management deal with Sanctuary Music Management, a spate of recording with producer Joe Foster and a second Peel session, this time with a host of extra musicians and a brief to record cover versions. The session is due to be broadcast on 24th September
