The Mercat de Música Viva de Vic was founded in 1988 as a meeting point between the world of music creation and that of its diffusion and promotion.

After sixteen editions building up a market, making the city of Vic a crossroad for music and musicians, the Mercat is at the present the only live music market of these characteristics in Spain. And it has become one of the most important in Southern Europe.

The project was welcomed by the city of Vic, a medium-sized town, located half-way between the sea and the Pyrenees, and only seventy kilometres away from Barcelona and Girona.

The city welcomes with their arms open every September when the streets fill up with music. The centre of all this experiences is found in the very heart of Vic, it’s the Plaça Major, where holds the biggest stage with the more popular concerts. During four days, the Mercat de Música, offers you more than 40 shows in 7 stages around the city, from small auditoriums to theatres, big audiences and outdoors places as the Sucre or Plaça Màrtirs.

You will discover the stages walking around the city or discover the city walking from one stage to another …following the musical circuits we will prepare for the edition 2005.

After sixteen editions, every September the Mercat de Música welcomes bands, programmers and institutions from all over Spain. But also important is the presence of different international delegations from Europe, Latin America, Canada, North America, Australia and Maghrib; and a large number of members of the European Forum of Worldwide Music Festivals (EFWMF).

Some of the international delegations that attended the Mercat in 2004 are: Zone Franche from France, The Swedish Festival Association, a delegation from all over Canada and a delegation from South America with professionals from Argentina, Belize, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.

The Mercat also welcomes the delegates of important trade fairs as Womex, Strictly Mundial, Mercado Cultural do Bahia, Puerta de las Américas, Cinars and Rideau, in addition to a large number of international artists.

The Mercat de Música also offers you a professional trade fair area from Thursday to Sunday with meeting rooms for presentations, conferences, round tables, encounters, press conferences, etc… but very characteristic is to provide encounters between our guests. You just have to come!

After the success at the edition 2004 of the stage showcase, Club MV, for 2005 there will be 2 stages showcase with shows during the 4 days trade fair schedule.

At night, after the concerts, the Club MV stage is the place to go, where every night you will enjoy the fiesta dj’s sessions only for professionals.

The attendance of national, European, North American and Latin American programmers turns Vic into one of the essential meeting points for a large number of professionals, programmers, festival directors, promoters, record labels, agents, etc...

The important presence of media, national and international, assures a great media attention for the event.

Moreover, the Mercat de Música has a large audience of not specialized public (more than 110.000 spectators in the edition 2004). So, it is an excellent platform to check new proposals.

But Vic is not only about music business. The city charms the visitant in every corner, from its terraces and restaurants, with local and traditional food, to its Market every Saturday morning.
