Editor's noteWell you'll all be glad to know that I have just avoided serious mishap due to stumbling down the stairs in a rush to respond to the loud (how do I turn it down?!) and insistent beckoning of my mobile phone, for some reason it's always downstairs when I'm up and vice versa. Now don't misunderstand me, there are many times when I'm glad of this device, which I once insisted that I could do without, but the tones it emits are not the literal 'music to the ears' that they are to an increasingly vast amount of people - I don't want the opening bars of my favourite piece of music condensed and digitalised into a pale shadow of the original to eventually irritate me and annoy those on the train or elsewhere every time I am called by the important people and adoring women (OK I can dream!) that vie for my attention. But huge amounts of people do - ringtones are big business, now bigger business than the singles market, big returns for publishers - if they can get all the deals straight - and now in the UK they have their own chart! The June 5 issue of Musicweek included their first ever fortnightly 'brand new and official' ringtones charts, which was topped, quite fittingly by a title including a swear word and dealing with the rejection of a girlfriend, (apparently more partners are now dumped by text message than any other means!), yes that savoury ditty - F**k It (I Don't Want You Back) by Eamon makes history as the first UK number one amongst ringtones.
Now all we need is for someone to come up with a radio or TV programme called 'Top of the Tones', which will cause mayhem as people all over the place damage themselves as they scramble up and down stairs to answer what they think are calls from their friends and nearest and dearest, or more likely that 'We're finished' message!
Right, enough cynicism (can there ever be enough?) - on with the News! - Just a minute, my bloody phone's ringing!!
All the best
Allan McGowan

| Live Music Shares on One View by Manfred Tari - edited by Allan McGowan
| Clear
Channel (CCU.NSE.): Slight
losses reported for 4 issues in row
now. On May 21 the reported price
was 39.35 USD on June 4 the share
noted 38.74 USD.
CTS Eventim (EVD.FSE):
Last time 13.00, this time 13.60 Euro.
Under the current stock market conditions
this is certainly not bad, as the
market generally shows some very,
very tentative signs of recovery.
DEAG (ERM.FSE): Also
doing better. 2.74 compared to 2.35.Euro
last time.
Mean Fiddler (MEF.ISE):
These shares have proved for quite
a while now not to be spectacular
in terms of significant up and downs.
With no fanfare MEF went up from 58.50
to 61.75 Pence.
Sanctuary (SGP.ISE):
A loss but in this case just a very
petite loss. From 48.75 Pence down
to 48.50 Pence. |
