Editor's noteFirstly, those of you who attended ILMC 16 may have read many of these stories in our first ever print edition of Vip News put together specially for the Conference, so apologies for the repetition. For those of you, our regular readers, that didn't get to The Royal Garden Hotel in London we have, blearily eyed after three very intense days, put together the highlights in a brief overview of the biggest ILMC yet.
Anniversaries, and the figure 50 have been looming large of late. Apparently, and I'm not sure who set the start date, Rock and Roll is 50 years old this year, 1954 is full of pop culture benchmarks. Elvis Presley recorded his first single - and in a small factory in Fullerton, California, Leo Fender created his first Stratocaster. Also in the UK the older fan, rather than being a bonus, is fast becoming the music industry's best customer, and has acquired a name: the 50-Quid Bloke. I'm reassured that the live industry now realises that the gig-going habit no longer fades at 40 or 50.I'm sure this will be remarked upon in many of the ILMC panels.
With only a day to recover from the rigours of ILMC, your intrepid Editor will be heading for Austin Texas for the joys of SXSW, we deal in some depth with the showcase line up for this year's event, and I will tell tales from the Wild West in the next issue - in the meantime - Ladies & Gentlemen - The News.
All the best
